[pct-l] Pills Galore

I take several prescritpions at different times of the day plus a number
of vitamins, etc. At home I parcel out the pills into the 7 compartment
pill boxes (one compartment for each day, and a different color or size
for time of day). This helps me to remember and to know if I've taken
certain medication that day.

For the trail, I parcel out the pills needed for my planned days
including going to/coming from the trail onto little squares of wax
paper. Then I fold the wax paper to make a little packet and secure the
packet with masking tape. Then I mark each packet from the time and day
its pills are to be taken. Then all the packets go into a freezer
zip-lock bag for protection; and then the whole bag goes into my food
bag. So far it has worked for me. I can't use plastic wrap as it sticks
to some of the pills and capsules as well as being a pain to open.
Another advantage -- if you have a camp fire, you can burn the used
paper in the fire although at best this only saves a few grams. :-)

One other technique to save weight. On short trips I've taken fresh
eggs. To pack them, I cut down a paper mache type egg carton to just
hold my eggs; tape shut with masking tape, maybe wrap in newspaper; then
carry inside a cooking pot and pad around the eggs with other food
stuff. After I use the eggs I can burn the packaging.

I wouldn't burn plastic or foam containers because of releasing pollutants.
