I would certainly encourage you to look around in thrift shops for down that
could be "pirated".  Beware however that all down is not created equal.  A
quick search of commercially made down comforters shows that many arent made
with very high fill power of down (300-400).  This stuff would work but
would be heavier than the better stuff.  On theother hand, there are some
comforters out there that use 800 fill power down, these seem to all cost
$300-$400, so there is your dilemma.  Good luck!
