[pct-l] Re: Food canister regs within SeKi National Park

On a recent hike through Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park, the message
requiring park-approved food canisters was more than obvious. However, there
were shortcomings.
Some of my actual observations:
1. Hikers who carried the canisters but who had more food than their
canister could hold.
2. Hikers who carried canisters but who kept food out in the campsite.
3. Actual group of 18 who carried canisters but who did not secure lid and
subsequently a bear entered their campsite and got the food. Honest!
4. Plenty of bear boxes empty or near empty.
5. Other violations abound: washing dishes with soap in streams; illegal
fires; littering.
Personally, we did not carry the canisters, slept well above tree line, kept
clean campsites, didn't cook in the campsite, and for the 25th straight year,
had no human-bear encounter. Period.
