I was in Yosemite for two weeks in June and July.  I read new official
publications about bears.
1.  Yosemite rangers are now firing rubber bullets at problem bears who
are caught being destructive to convince them to leave the area and not
return.
2.  Persons defending their food from bears are encouraged to throw
rocks in the general direction of bears, but not aim to hit them.  They
want us to discourage them, not kill them.
