Since Northern Yosemite is the largest roadless area in California, Oregon 
and Washington along the trail, and it might take up to three days to hike 
out of that area, I figured on three day's supply of pain killers (codeine 
was the strongest pain killer available at the time that my doc would give me 
and wasn't perishable) would do the trick.  I think that I used only a 
couple, fortunately not encountering any major injuries along the hike.

In this area I wouldn't skimp for the benefit of light weight.  You might 
just end up paying for it in pain.
