I sent a picture of the "x" tree, located on the Ellaville Section of the FNST to the Historical Research Bureau in Tallahassee, this is the reply: Ms. Dunnam, good to hear from you again, your "x tree" is probably a witness post for a Land Survey point, probably a section corner, check your usgs map and see if there is corner there. These were marked and described in surveyors notes, around a point to help subsequent surveys locate the point.
