One of the advantages of living in a a yuppie. but 'outdoor active' area,
is that the thrift shops are full of great outdoor clothing for cheap. 
When I needed a new fleece, hit the local thrift store  (live just
outside of Boulder,CO) and found a Patagonia fleece for $4!  Was shocked,
but not complaining...  Also seen gortex shells, too.  Amazing what
people get rid of around here...
