Re: [at-l] Xmas on the AT

http://www.georgiatrails.com should direct you to how to get to Springer the
'easy' way and also a great loop hike using the Benton MacKay (ma'k-eye not
m'kay) trail. As a newbie not used to our hills (lol mountains, everyone
should do Sassafras, right?) I'd stick with the loop hike if I were you.
Another nice hike for a short time period is the hike from Dick's Creek Gap
to Unicoi Gap to Hog Pen Gap. Look on the website above and consider that.
If you can get to Neel Gap, just a bit farther south, there's a phone and
you can call someone OR you may be able to arrange to leave your car at
Byron Reece pkg lot 1/4 mile north of Neel Gap and hike towards it. It'll
cost at Dick's Creek, free at Unicoi or Hog Pen.

I'll be out of town until the 28th or I'd offer to shuttle.....

I used to hike up to Blood Mountain shelter for Christmas -- hike it from
Woody (pkg lot) and it's an easy day hike. Hike from Neel Gap and watch
your knees start to crackle and pop going up.

There'll be a group of us on the 31-1 at Springer for the last/first hikers.
Not crowded and depending on the weater -- probably cold, potentially snow
or ice -- ya come to our mountains and you take the weather the mountains
gives ya!

Come on up to God's Country!
