I have referred to this post, publicly or otherwise, several times in
the past couple of days. And, since it's raining here in God's Country,
I figgered I'd post it. It is from April of '98, and Wingfoot's list:

Well, I attended boarding school with the future Rene Descartes. He was
quite the romantic, and not a bad hiker. Once, on a long holiday, we
went
hiking in the Alps. It was drizzling and we were laying in a tent
reading. He was writing a note to his girlfriend, telling her how he
missed her on this rainy day. I said "Isn't that sweet? Sending your
sweetheart a 'Rainy-Day Card'. Why don't you work on rectangles, or
something progressive?" His trailname was immediately changed to
"Rainy-Day Cards". After he started moving up the lucrative philosophy
ladder, he went with the more French spelling we see today. I remember
another time he said "Cohiko, ergo sum", loosely translating to "I hike,
therefore I am". I replied with "I don't hike, therefore I'm not."
