Re[2]: [at-l] calcium, take II

"...Given the number of shinsplint and stress fractures reported."
     Ouch!
But since those "numbers" take place in the south, in the spring,
before much time or many miles had passed, and while packweights have
not yet been whittled by the sensibilities of miles, um, it seems more
likely that the supplements would be helpful for the *rest* of us, not
     the throughhikers.

(Even in '79 -- you know, the Dark Ages[?] -- I saw three fractures.
All three were in people young, vigorous/athletic, and carrying packs
going better than sixty pounds. I'd love to see a hard correlation.)

The need to supplement depends on a number of factors, <snip>

Whether this is necessary for a very active thru-hiker is up to some
conjecture. I suspect it is given the number of shin splints and stress
fractures reported.
