Hm, I find it easier to light the whole fuel tab, then
just blow it out when I'm finished cooking. I tried
cutting the tabs up and ended up using the same amount
of fuel tab in the end. You're right, it does take
about 1/2 tab for a lipton's meal.
Someone (I think it was Bristlecone) suggested making
a "windscreen" of two pieces of folded aluminum foil
that were about 2 in. by 3 in. and hooking each into
one of the open sides of the Esbit stove. This would
help concentrate the flame.
