RESEARCH INTERESTS

Protozoan parasites that can cause human disease are the subject of Dr.
Meyer's research interest. These include Giardiain particular, but also
Trichomonas, Entamoeba, and Plasmodium.
Aspects of Giardia research interest have included their isolation and
culture, metabolism, pathogenesis, excystation, encystation, inactivation
of cysts, and a study of anti Giardia agents. The chemotaxonomic
differentiation of organisms in this group by isozyme determination has
also been studied. Finally, bacteria endosymbiotic in the cells of
eukaryotic organisms have also been the subject of recent research.
