     I did not ask for "work for stay" in '79; I was just passing throo. In 
     fact, I find the whole practice a rude and corrupt attempt to 
     camouflage the fact that the AMC/WMNF make no provision for long 
     distance hikers.

     I've only interacted with hut crooes twice, in '79 and in '92. 
     Throughhiking in '79, I found them to be surly, uninformative, and 
     rude.
     
     In contrast, as a hut-hopping, fee-paying customer of the AMC 
     franchises in '92, I found them to be surly, uninformative, and rude, 
     (except during meals, which were joyous feeds).
     
     The contrast between '79 and '92 was interesting to note.

 Treatment of thru hikers seems to be a very sore point. 
 I'd like to hear some input of the past thruhikers here on at-l. am I right 
to assume there are many sides to the Thru-hiker v. Croo stories?
