That place is a landmark. A padlcok for your room, opting to sleep on the
floor rather than the bed, leaving by the backdoor on a Sunday. Debating
wether I want to take a bath in that bathtub or not.. All for the bargain
price of $10 a person.

The AMC charges $6 for their lean-tos. And let me tell you, does not have
nearly the charm of the Doyle.... Sure, you get a nice campsite in some
the most beautful mtns in this country. But does it have .60 Juengling
drafts? A jukebox playng bad country music? A pool table with worn felt?
Rooms with bare lightbulbs ! 

I think not.


So let us have a moment of silence for the Doyle. A flophouse by any
other name should have beer as cheap.  It is an institution on the AT.
And an arguement could be made that all AT hikers belong in an
institution. So this is a good thing.
