[at-l] Water sources

I am delighted to tell you that the
water sources are plentiful on the
trail. The Len Foote shelter is about 5
miles from Amicolola off the approach
trail. They charge $50-60 a night
(think it comes with two meals) and bunk
beds. Personally I would rather stay in
my tent or a shelter, but since you
asked. There is never water on Blood.
Nearest water source is Slaughter or
Neels. There was plenty of water at
Slaughter last week. After our previous
section hike and 2 days without a water
source we marveled at seeing so much
water! The "Welcome Center" is just
that, a center for people who visit the
park. It does have rest rooms (a
welcome site at the end of a long hike)
and a scale to weigh your pack. There
are just some small exhibits and
notices," touristy stuff", nothing
special. I would be interested in
hearing about what you think of the
difference since your earlier hike.
Springer is just beautiful right now.
Trails can be icy and a little snow and
icicles that turn it into a winter
wonderland. Have a great hike and just
e-mail me with any questions about the
area. That area is my "home away from
home". BTW, when we were on Blood a
couple of weeks ago there were two
"hikers" who had spent two days getting
from Neels Gap. Spent the first night
on Flat Rock and second at the Blood Mt.
shelter. It was their "weekend hike".
Two young guys with great equipment and
about 70# packs. Thought you might find
that amusing. Linda
