Gentlemen - speak in the past tense when referring to C-things
and Earl - he Carried one for about a week, but it was too heavy
(it *affected* his pack weight), so he sent it back. If you read
the article I forwarded from his nephew Bob, it was right there.
Suffice to say, he's not carrying one now. Wingfoot had said that
he was carrying one at the insistence of his brother, but
apparently Earl's decided he can handle himself wisely, and
doesn't need it. Helluva man, taking a chance like that...
