The key word here seems to be "sport". Is this what we want the
AT to become ... a sports venue, with all of the values that the
word "sports" means in today's America? I prefer that AT hiking
remain a recreational (better yet, a re-creational) endeavor, so
I will resist _any_ attempt to transform AT hiking into a sport.
This includes trying to set any kind of record, EcoChallenge
events on the AT, and so on. Hope some of you will join me by
speaking out any time this type of "sports" mentality is voiced
in association with AT hiking and use of the Trail!--WF
