Ditto everything Jim Owen said and one more thought. In my experience
running shoe soles aren't made for traction on the kinds of surfaces you
encounter on the trail. With the growing popularity of trail running
manufacturers are now making trail runners which have hiking boot outsoles
on running shoe uppers. You might want to consider them rather than your
standard running shoe.
