The chance of meeting this person, are slim. But keep in mind that he may be
in the area.

As for weapons:
No matter what weapon, you want to carry. If its in the pack, its no good to
you.
There is an item you can carry, with many uses. This is a hiking staff.  It
helps to keep the weight off the knee's, it can be used as a weapon (check
with a Martial Arts School, on how to use it)
