Re: [at-l] a sad day

Regardless of what the media has said about the wind speed record associated
with typhoon Paka (Hawaiian for Patrick) that struck Guam, this measurement
has not been confirmed. The mearsurement was made by a "hot-wire" anemometer
which is not calibrated for wind speeds in excess of 115 mph. This hot wire
method is affected by the humidity and other things in the marine environment
that could have impacted the reading. Both the National Weather Service and
the military (the reading was taken at an Air Force Base), doubt the validity
of this reading. Should in my opinion, the Mt Washington record stays. Does
this made a sad day a happy one? :-)))).
