It depends on what your ground transportation is. The NY airports are
about 1 1/2 hr from either end, i.e. the middle. I assume you are
traveling commercial, not private. There are private fields nearer
the ends. The NY airports have terrible public transportation.
You can probably get a bus from the city to the Water Gap area but I
have no idea how close you can get to Kent, likely not very, perhaps Danbury.
On the other hand if you don't go to Kent but start or end at NY 22
you can take a commuter train to the Appalachian Trail train stop right
on the trail.
