i spent a few evenings while thruhiking in 92 adding it all up.  those
evenings could have been better spent writing in my journal, but hey, i was
tired of writing  :).  

i think this is right:  about 435,000 vertical feet UP, with half of that
occuring north of the MA/VT border, or somewhere around there.  that's
everest 15 times.  did anyone else bother to do this mindless task?
