[at-l] First Need filter

Hi,

I have been using a First Need filter on canoe trips for the past few years and
it has always performed very well. When others on the trip have had their PUR
quit working, my trusty First Need has always been there.

I have seen lots of press here and in USENET about the goodness of PUR filters
- and lately the company - but I don't hear anything about First Need. Do none
of you use this filter? Is this like using a Mac in a PC world? Paddling a
wooden canoe when everyone else is in plastic? Do I always just have to be
different?

I am considering upgrading my First Need to the First Need Deluxe - not for any
real reason, just because mine is the original and after 5 years I think I
ought to :). The Delux supposedly has a higher water thruput rate - although
it looks like it uses the same pump and filter, and the Deluxe has a built-in
Nagalene jar attachment - I have an add on for the original. The Deluxe also
looks like it uses a different pre-filter than the one I had to add to the
original.

Anyway, does anyone have any comments on the First Need Deluxe? I am planning
on bringing mine on a thru-hike in 1999, and am interested in any comments, for
or against.

Thanks,

Tim (Paddler, GA->ME 99)
