Actually, Dartmouth freshmen do not hike in the Whites until after Labor Day,
maybe about Sept 10-20. And it's not the entire class at once as the
departures from campus are staggered over those 10 days, some freshmen do not
participate, and some do canoe trips and other non-AT hikes and bike trips
instead. The only area where you will undoubtedly meet them would be the
peak of Mount Moosilauke as all groups spend the final night at the Ravine
Lodge there and the final day is an ascent to the top for lunch. And don't
forget all the work the Dartmouth Outing Club does for the area and the AT in
particular.
