In Shenandoah, I was awakened at 3:00 am by something bumping into my 
tent guy ropes. After 60 seconds of visualizing how I was going to deal 
with a bear, I looked out in bright moonlight to discover it was two of 
the clumsiest deer I have ever encountered. They wouldn't shoo, either, 
but just kept looking at me with, well, doe eyes. They didn't leave 
until just before dawn. I mentally referred to them at the time and ever 
since as Bambi and Thumper.
