As I see it. It really doesn't matter how you get to the first white blaze.
If you drive to within a mile of it (fs42) that's fine.  If you can only get
a ride to Amicalola, that's cool too.  

I guy I used to know, a bicyle racer type, would ride credit card tour style
from hotel to hotel, hundreds of miles to enter in various races in the
region. Most people would drive to the race but he chose to pedal.

If you choose to drive to the trail, cool. If you want to walk there? Great.
Makes no difference.
