[at-l] Alcohol stove question

hi tall, especially Tinman if reading,
several folks answered an alcohol stove question for me a while back.
now i have another one. i've put together several can stoves.
wasn't sure that they worked correctly because the blue flame
never really came through the hole around the rim all that well.
just red flame from the big hole in the middle.
now i'm looking at tinman's site. figured it was time to buy one of his.
he mentions that it regularly takes 60 seconds for a stove to "bloom".
does that mean that i just plain didn't wait long enough for the fuel to
do it's job and begin to burn correctly? i probably didn't give them a full minute and a half.
i'm down to the wire on getting and testing gear.
i'll have to be cooking every night in the yard once the stove set. now that it's so cold, will be a good way to test for march cooking.
much appreciation,
boulder
thanks for any advice
