No, he's just choosey. He doesn't want something that will spark 
controversy while he's hiking and thus interfere with the pleasure of being 
out in the woods.

I have a different problem with bandanas. I have *lots* of them. For 
several years my wife and kids would buy me bandanas as gifts and I have at 
least a dozen including some of those Harley ones, 3-4 Kung-Fu motif, 
several of the old fashioned paisley ones, an ADK High Peaks map one, 2 
blue ones with white polka dots, 2 green ones with a black pattern on them 
and one US flag one. That's not the problem though. My problem is that I 
wish they made them 22x22 instead of 21x21. I have just barely enough to 
tie it around my head with the standard size.
