If Gelbspan is right, Katrina is a symptom
or consequence of a brewing environmental
disaster.  But in the gulf, it has created its
very own environmental disaster of huge
proportions which threatens to make New
Orleans uninhabitable.

According to one EPA official, "There is not
enough money in the Gross National Product
of the United States to dispose of the amount
of hazardous material in the area."

The photo on the Washington Post (online)
site is a reminder of that -- a damaged well
spilling oil into the gulf.
