OSCODA (AP) - Jeff Kolka of Grayling and Serge Corbin of Quebec won
their ninth AuSable River Canoe Marathon on Sunday.
In the third consecutive photo finish to the 58th annual race, Kolka
and Corbin finished the 120-mile course in 14 hours, 56 minutes and 11 seconds,
one second ahead of Matt Rimer, 21, of Horton and Andy Triebold, 28, of Spring
Arbor.
Kolka, 46, and Corbin, 48, won eight consecutive marathons from 1996
through 2003. Last year, they finished 13 seconds behind Triebold and Steve
Lajoie.
The race started at 9 p.m. Saturday in Grayling and finished at the
river's mouth at Lake Huron in Oscoda. The Kolka-Corbin and Rimer-Triebold teams
exchanged the lead throughout the night and weren't separated by more than two
seconds at any of the 15 timing spots.
