[at-l] Rabies & hiking

Well said, Black Wolfe. And, I would like to add that those very few (thank goodness) "life or death moments" in my life have (every time) *felt* like they were happening in *slow motion*, which then seemed to give me a little "extra" time to think and then do what needed to be done. After having that experience myself several times, I then read somewhere that the "slow motion" sensation is caused by intense adrenaline production in the body, as a sort of biological defense mechanism. I know that it helped me to avoid "being eaten" (or otherwise maimed or killed), several times.

PS. Yes, I'm still here, for now. Some of these conversations are way too interesting for me to leave just yet! ;-)

There occur moments in the lives of some where their entire focus must be on
surviving this one moment by doing that which will allow them to survive.
Those who lack the training, instinct, focus and/or will power to do what
must be done, will be scarred for life, buried, cremated or simply eaten!

Thankfully these moments are relatively few and far between. (As one
airline pilot described his job; "Years and years of boredom, punctuated by
rare moments of shear terror.)
