Had a guy in the van today that was carrying, I would guess, in the
neighborhood of 60 or 70 pounds.  Hanging off of the back of his pack
was a pair of hiking shoes.  I noticed that he was also wearing a pair
of hiking shoes.  So I asked him why he had two pair of hiking shoes. 
He explained that they were for different types of terrain - sometimes
he needed ankle support, sometimes he didn't...

He then changed into his town clothes, and talked about his 2-pound
water filter that does not work any longer (so he is using his backup
purification tablets that take 4 hours to work), and his
PDA-cell-phone-with-a-charger thingy that he needed to plug in
somewhere...

Pittsia the amazed (who thinks that we need those
"catholic-nuns-with-rulers" at every shelter to crack the knuckles of
the really really dumb hikers)
