Stephen -

In my opinion, an average hiker who has not previously hiked Georgia
needs to take it easy. The trail in Georgia is quite rugged. Most
everyone who has hiked Georgia indicates that it is tougher than they
would have imagined. Please go to www.trailjournals.com and read the
journals of those that have begun their hikes in Georgia. This is
where you will get your best education...

Art Cloutman and I are in complete agreement. Keep the mileage down to
ensure an enjoyable hike. I'd recommend at least eight days to go from
Amicalola to Dicks Creek Gap:

1 - Amicalola to Black Gap Shelter (tough 7.3 miles)
2 - to Hawk Mountain Shelter (easy 9.1 miles)
3 - to Gooch Mountain Shelter (tough 7.1 miles)
4 - to Woods Hole Shelter (moderate 11.9 miles)
5 - to Hogpen Gap (moderate 10.5 miles)
6 - to Blue Mountain Shelter (moderate 10.7 miles)
7 - to Tray Mountain Shelter (tough 7.7 miles)
8 - to Dicks Creek Gap (tough 10.6 Miles)
