[at-l] NOC map...and driving...big conundrum

Well, I did some looking and mapping today since I have never been there (for the record very excited about finally getting to go). I am actually going to drop the kid off in Commerce, Ga that afternoon, and I was looking for the best way. Yahoo and RandMcNally both take you out through the country, one exit north of the big Commerce exit, on these little old back roads. Ughhh. But 441 (exit 149 off I-85) goes direct, AND FOUR LANE, from Commerce, GA right through Clayton and Franklin eventually to 74/19 and down to the NOC. Or 28 goes out of Franklin over the mountain to 74 and take a left to NOC. So it looks okay right?

Well not so fast, I called NOC and talked with this very nice lady. She said that when she comes from that way she takes 64 out of Franklin to Murphy and then makes a right to the NOC on 74, and that she finds that easier and more direct. I have driven 64 Franklin to Murphy and its not a bad road, some two lane and some four lane. Over a few mountains, but then it settles down. I have not gone all the way up 441 to 74 out of Franklin.

Has anyone driven this up 85 from Atlanta?

I know if you are coming out of Atlanta, you most likely would hit 985 into Gainesville, or that is what some of the directions say. But what it boils down to is how to travel from Clayton, Ga or Franklin, NC on to the NOC. I will be coming from the Franklin/Clayton area (I know how I am getting that far) after I drop off the kid in Commerce.

Dawg

Ps. If there is anyone that is needing a ride that way, email me off list.

All you vegetarians: when I was last there, the Rivers End had excellent
    dahl baht on the menu.
