I didn't say "illegal" - I said "difficult and restrictive."  Did you 
actually read the requirements on that website?  How many people will refuse 
to jump through those hoops simply because it takes too much time, energy 
and money?  How many people are NOT on the "good side" of their local police 
chief?  Have you checked the restrictions on ammunition?  And how many of 
those Colonial guns were "registered" in 1775?  I'll repeat - Today's 
liberals have succeeded in doing by stealth what the British failed to do by 
force to the people of Massachusetts in 1775.

That being said - I still don't recommend carrying guns on the AT or any 
other long trail - but I DO recommend wearing orange during hunting season - 
LOTS of it.  And it IS hunting season - RIGHT NOW.  I got this notice a 
couple days ago.  It's ONLY for PA - so check with your local gubmint to 
find out about your local hunting seasons.

SAFETY

IT IS UNLAWFUL  for non-hunters to be present on State Game Lands from 
November 15 through December 15 inclusive without wearing at least a 
Fluorescent Orange hat, visible from 360 degrees (a vest or jacket of 250 
sq. inches is of  Safety Orange is recommended ).  .  .

BUT this is not the only hunting season; listed below are some others:

WEAR BLAZE ORANGE FOR SAFETY.  Sportsmen will be hunting in Game Lands, 
State Forests, and some State Parks.  Hunting is prohibited on the 
Appalachian Trailâ??s National Park Service-owned corridor, but not all 
hunters are aware of that.
