[at-l] ME>GA or GA>ME

When traveling North on the Appalachian Trail any side trail or object on your left is "west"
and anything on the right or to the right is "east" regardless of the actual compass direction.
Conversely when hiking south on the AT anything on your left is "east" and anything on your
right is "west". I think there is an explanation of this convention in the guidebook. Was meant
to simplify things...whether is has or not is another question....

Unidirectional instructions say "turn east" instead of "turn left", etc.

Does that mean "east" in trail terms, or in real directions? I've always understood that, if
you start in GA, no matter which way the trail is actually headed at the moment, you're headed
north. anklebear
