I see on the ATC Maine map #1 the two routes from the picnic area. The high road is called Abol Pond Trail, which joins the Blueberry Ledges Trail just above the kiosk junction. The low road is called Abol Stream Trail. All is now clear.
You take the high road and I'll take the low road and I'll be ... before ye.

What's the Kiorsk Junction?
There's a sign-in Kiosk about 1/2 mile north of the footbridge over Abol Stream. The Blueberry Ledges Trail heads north to the Birches, and the AT heads west along the river from there.
