[at-l] Re: [WomenHikers] War & Hazardous Duty Pay - WAAY off topic

That is absolutely not true; you don't have to have a combat injury to be
'service connected' for an injury. If something changed between your
induction physical and discharge physical you should be covered. I am
service connected for two things, one is hearing loss. Neither of the
injuries happened during combat.

A sore point in Florida is that all these older vets are moving down here,
at least seasonally but the VA hospital where they came from, Ohio or some
such, is kept open to serve these now non-resident vets. They need to close
a bunch of those hospitals and relocate the service where the vet population
actually lives.

So the issue isn't as you make it out to be.

ones who are coming home from the war and injured. Veteran's Hospitals are
being drastically cut back and 11 more hospitals are supposed to close soon.
If a soldier is hurt in the war, but it is not as a result of being shot
etc, he is not covered by anything at all. (For instance, if his truck is in
a crash and it wasn't because he was being shot at, he has no medical
coverage.). Many Veteran's are being turned away and there is a long, long
waiting list.
