That was exactly the name I was searching for. Actually, it is now the 
Gooch Mountain Shelter, as the shelter at the Gap has been torn down and 
LNT'ed into oblivion. If I recall correctly, FS 42 becomes paved just a bit 
north of Gooch Gap (or "west" in AT centric view).
