[at-l] Clothing the repels insects

Y'know - some of you should pay more attention. We've been telling you for
5 years that Supplex does exactly the same thing. It doesn't "repel" them
but flies, black flies, mosquitos and no-see-ums just won't (or maybe
can't) bite through it. It's worked for us on the PCT, the CDT - and all
over the East Coast. Among others, REI sells Supplex pants - and Supplex
shirts are available from a whole gaggle of outlets. I've got a Supplex
shirt that I bought on sale for $12 in 1997 and it still works just fine -
and it's been through 2 thruhikes and been washed a whole lot more than 24
times. It'll go with me on the CDT again in 2 years. OTOH, I wear out at
least one pair of Supplex pants every year.
Of course, you're welcome to pay the extra - but keep in mind that the
clothing still won't protect the parts of your body that aren't covered
unless it's emitting chemicals that are at least as hazardous to your heath
as Deet.
Have a good night anyway,
Jim
