One of my all time favorite State laws (and I won't ID the State to avoid a
flame thread) was:

If one, or more, motor vehicles approach an unguarded, on-grade railroad
crossing at, or about, the same time as one, or more trains, each vehicle
and train must come to a complete stop and remain stopped until all other
such vehicles and trains are out of sight.
