Not to belabor the point, nor to take it severely off
topic, these books and experience can help you define
"successful" in your own terms. Money is part of it,
as is prestige, power and productivity. Other things
can define success that might not show up on a balance
sheet or on your quarterly job review.

Similarly, back on topic, success ain't just
completing a thru hike in a preordained number of
weeks. Setting goals and having the flexibility to
amend those goals is part of adulthood. The trail is a
great place to grow up, at any age.
