Teresa,
Generally I reset my altimeter when I get to a known point . In the mornings I reset it to the value I recorded before bedtime the night before. This compensates for the overnight changes in barometric pressure.
I really enjoy my Sunto rest computer. Each day it reports total feet ascended and total feet descended. Also it records totals for an entire trip. Those little hills really add up!

If altimeters use barometric pressure to estimate elevation (altitude), what
happens when the barometric pressure is changing due to weather and not
elevation? Is the change so insignificant that it doesn't matter? What is
the relationship between pressure and altitude (What change in pressure is
equivalent to 100 feet elevation, for example)? Does the altimeter need to
be calibrated?
Thanks.
:-)
Wench
