True. But I don't think "most" use them. I almost never see a Leki user hiking
with the rubber tips.

And to Sly, I don't need to see the erosion to know that it is happening. All I
have to know is that the forces of gravity are alive and well. Erosion of even
very shallow garden slopes occurs when a rain drop causes a particle of soil to
bounce. When the soil particle falls back, it ends up a tiny fraction of an inch
down the slope.

I have never crawled in the mud with a magnifying glass to observe the
phenomenon, but in the 25 years I've been tilling my garden a great deal of the
top soil in the 50X50 plot has migrated to the lower end.
