Let's try a thought experiment here:

Get a bucket fill it about half way with soil, smooth the surface off. Now
take your hiking pole and poke a couple of holes in the soil. Now get your
water hose and sprinkle the soil with the hose. Sha-zam the holes fill in!
But the bucket still has the same amount of soil and none has eroded away.
Now that's science Weary.
