[at-l] Southern RUCK (reposted)...

Dawg, that's a good idea.
There is a short Trail around the property. I have walked it. It could perhaps benefit from some blowdown removal, blazing and brushing. Is Sunny on the list? It would make a nice afternoon stroll. Many hands make light work. It could be done in 2-3 hours.
We walked it last fall. I saw some champion bear scat there.

Camp Thornwell is a pretty wild corner of NC/SC, right near the Foothills Trail. And you're gonna love the camp. Wait till you see the common room - anchored around a huge stone fireplace, the middle is tables for eating and projects, the back third is all kitchen. Open floor plan. A mountain stream gurgles through the middle of the camp (class on water filtration/treatment?). The cabins and bunks are more than adequate. Open spaces for friesbee or campfire. Foothills Trail and the famous Transylvania County waterfalls are nearby (see NCwaterfalls.com).
The camp sits in a private little valley of it's own, it's own "holler." We will disturb noone.

A little information:

Camp Thornwell's 50 acres are nestled in the South Carolina mountains 80
miles northwest of the main campus. It provides a variety of programs to
children at-risk. Also, the camp offers a retreat haven where children and
families can escape the pressures of their everyday lives. Under the
guidance of our Family Services Specialist and social workers concentrate on
communication and interpersonal relationship skills that help preserve the
family by strengthening its individual members.

It seems to be part of a bigger Home for Children.
Does anyone have an opinion about offering a legacy to them during the Ruck?
Perhaps a service project for the campus in the mountains. I think it would
be good to give back.
We could contact them and ask them about this? Maybe they have some sort of
maintenance that needs to be done. Clean up? It doesn't have to be
spectacular. Just meaningful.
