[at-l] Native American and the AT was OT Thread about YTerrorism



Growing up on the banks of the Indus and visiting most of the archaeological sites between there and Rome has left me with an interest in history and archaeology which sometimes appears in the oddest of places. It's difficult for me to hike the AT and not think of the history and prehistory of the place. Just about any flint or quartz-like area near a spring turns out to have once been a nomadic camp site used to mine for arrow and spear heads; most significant sites are *off* trail, however, for good reasons ... Taking a geologic perspective leaves me thinking about how disinterested the Appalachian Mountains must be in the transient saga of world history that originated on its flanks 2 or 3 centuries ago -- from the genocide of the barbaric skrielings (among whom on both sides of the conflict were some of my ancestors) to the latest attempts to affect history half way around the globe ...
