I've been trying to follow the thread about the car tags and who really
thought them up, how much they cost, why to just send the money to the ATC
to begin with, etc.  It seems to me that having an AT car tag is a good
chance to advertise and to get our stories out.  People will ask about them,
and you can start proselytizing.  I wear AT shirts a lot, and people ask me
about the trail, how much I've done, when etc.  I have one shirt that says
"Climb Every Mountain" on the back.  At Wal-Mart one night, the guy behind
me asked, "Well, do you?  When did you last do it?"  As it happened, I had
just been back from a section hike a few days, so I got to spread the word.
Car tags really spread the word.  anklebear
