Having spent only a few days on it, I'm not much good for advise but perhaps 
can supply some encouragement.

The one section we hiked was simply fantastic.  We enjoyed hiking with a 
herd of goats through Pan handle Gap, and camped in the company of Elk, 
Marmot, and Pika at Somerland and Indian Bar.  Some snow fields at the end 
of August, were interesting rather than traumatic ;-).

We couldn't get walk-in reservations for more sites on the Wonderland Trail, 
so continued our hiking oustide the Park and took a tourits drive to Mt St 
Hellens.  Its all good around there.  Really good.  Being realitively close 
to an airport doesn't hurt eaither.
