[at-l] Half gallon challenge article in latest Saveur magazine.

>From the June/July 2003 issue:

"Eat a Brick: Serious hikers know how to cool down."

Some quotes:

"For almost a quarter century, the store, less than a mile from the
official halfway point of the 2000-mile pedestrian thoroughfare --
which stretches from Georgia to Maine -- has hosted what it calls the
Half Gallon Challenge, wherein hikers must consume a half-gallon brick
of ice cream in one sitting."

"Gorging on a brick of Hershey's has laid low more than a few hikers.
 But the day I was there, Steve Spyker, a 47-year-old administrator
 for a seminary school in Richmond, Indiana, who'd hiked the first
 half of the trail in three months, ripped the cardboard top off of a
 container of moose tracks, peeled back the seal, and shoveled it in;
 20 minutes later, without a single break, he'd finished."

 Then it actually gives some directions on how to get to the Pine
 Grove Furnace store and where else to find Hershey's Ice Cream, so
 that you can do your own half-gallon challenge. Heh, not sure why
 anyone would want to if they weren't hiking everyday.
